Bahamas

A trip to the sunny Bahamas, who could pass that up? My girl friend Anita in Colorado suggested this trip as she had been there many times and raved about it, so off we went. The destination was the small Bahamian island of San Salvador, the site where Christopher Columbus first landed in the New World.
Getting there took a little effort as San Sal is slightly off the beaten track. I left Phoenix and met Anita in Miami and on to Nassau for the night. She had booked us at the delightful Orangehill Inn. We were only there for a few hours and then off on Bahamas Air to San Sal.
This is a very small island with only 1500 or so inhabitants and only 2 places to stay. One is Club Med and the other is Riding Rock Inn. Club Med is the obvious choice as it is located on the best beach and has great amenities. The main attraction here is diving which offers some of the best wall dives in the world. San Sal is a showcase for the Club Med operation. Attention to detail is evident throughout and no expense was spared. Artifacts from around the world adorn this property. Other than scuba diving, other activities include sailing, kayaking, snorkeling and just soaking up the sun. The dive operation is very well organized. Large dive boats transport you to the dive locations. Just go over the side and you are in divers heaven. The visability was excellent and the colors were awesome. We ended up doing 8 dives and enjoyed every one. In the afternoon we would go sailing on our Hobie Cat. A very relaxing way to spend the day.
The room was large and very well appointed with Satelite tv and cold A/C. The food was outstanding with a good variety to choose from. The was only about 20% occupancy when we were there so it felt like we had the place to ourselves.
This was a wonderful place to spend a week. So relaxing that we tried every way possible to extend our stay. It was a week that I will never forget. Crystal clear waters and pink sand beaches that is the Bahamas.
